36 weeks pregnant

This picture was taken on May 27th in our garden in Manila. Cathelijne is 36.5 weeks pregnant. The due date is June 21st 2007.

Trip to Palawan

Last week Ramin has visited the island province of Palawan in the Western part of the Philippines. On this island they have 5 Solar Branch Offices which sell, install and maintain Solar energy solutions for individual households. During his trip to Palawan he met with his operational, technical and sales staff and discussed the performance and plans of the Solar Branch Offices.

Solar Home Systems are used by unelectrified households, usually in the remote parts of the island. Before using Solar energy, most families were using kerosene lights or candles. With Solar they benefit from an improved convenience, safety and quality of light.

Around the main island of Palawan many small island are situated. These are often serene spots that are ideal for holiday makers.

White beaches can be found in many parts of Palawan.

This is the view from the restaurant Ramin had lunch. The restaurant specializes in seafood, with lobster and crab as their specialties.

For seafood lovers, Palawan is the place to be, as seafood, in some sort or another, is served three times a day.

One of the Solar customers was preparing the local delight: roasted crispy pig head.

This is the home of one of the more affluent Solar customers who lives in an unelectrified village. On the roof the Solar module can be seen, which is responsible for generating the electricity. This electricity is subsequently stored in a battery for usage at night.

Most customers are farmers (rice, coconut, cashew), often complimented by fishing.

The first need of a customer is lighting. Second comes TV/karaoke. This customer has a satellite dish installed.

The public mode of transportation is through ‘jeepney’. This vehicle is often packed with people, goods and animals.

Ramin has a special interest for baby’s, as Cathelijne is 36 weeks pregnant. This is the last trip outside of Manila before the delivery.

Many smiling faces during his customer visits. These visits are used to get feedback on the quality of the products, and to identify any further needs.

In Palawan 500 Health Clinics have been electrified through Solar Applications.

Water cows are used to cultivate the lands in preparation for the planting of rice.

At the bottom of this fruit a cashew nut is growing. Each fruit on a cashew nut tree only bears one cashed nut.

After the harvesting of the cashew nuts, they are washed, pealed and sun dried.
